Frequently Asked Questions about BlackCoat Made for iPod.

A few things you should or might want to know about using and caring for your BlackCoat MFI with ElekTex® smart fabric iPod controls.

Will this work with my iPod? The ElekTex module that Koyono includes with our Made for iPod jackets work with all iPods that have a dock connector.

We have tested and verified BlackCoats MFI with the following iPods:

iPod Compatibility

Really, I can wash this stuff? Only the electronic controls with the iPod connector need to be removed when laundering your BlackCoat. The Elektex sensor with the ribbon that runs to the electronic controls are fabric, and ridiculously durable. Actually, remove your iPod as well.

Will this jacket be obsolete faster than Steve Jobs can say "One more thing...?" Because technology is always changing, our ElekTex integration is designed to allow for new technologies and upgrades without the expense of replacing the garment it is in.

Is it delicate? Koyono only uses high-performance, long-wearing materials in our garments. The ElekTex control pad is as durable as most of the materials in our outerwear. The small black box that contains the electronics for the control pad is probably weakest part of the assembly. We suggest you avoid taking a sledgehammer to the chest when wearing one of our Made for iPod jackets.

Why did you put the control panel there? One-Handed Operation! Many of the early products created by other companies placed iPod control panels on the sleeves of coats. This placement ties-up both hands whenever you want to use the controls, requires your full attention, and gave rise to the use of automatic locking on the control panels to avoid accidental control changes. Here at Koyono, we are so used to having our iPods in our BlackCoat-Ts and pressing the buttons through the fabric that we needed a design that allowed for more subtle and fluid control. Our buttons are raised and give tactile feedback on positioning. Our testing shows that it only takes a few minutes to memorize the placement of the buttons - allowing for single-handed, blind operation of the iPod...which is pretty slick.

How do I care for my Koyono BlackCoat Made for iPod? To get the longest life out of your BlackCoat and Elektex controls, we recommend the following cleaning instructions.

Wash with warm or cold water and like colors.

Hang or tumble dry on low heat.

Avoid use of fabric softners.

Do not use bleach.

Do not iron.

Do not dry clean.

IMPORTANT NOTE - PLEASE READ:

IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE END USER TO REMOVE THE ELEKTEX ELECTRONIC CONTROLS WITH 30 PIN IPOD CONNECTOR FROM THIS GARMENT BEFORE WASHING OR CLEANING. The Elektex control box pictured below is located in the pouch directly below the iPod pocket. The Elektex control pad located on the lapel of your BlackCoat DOES NOT need to be removed before cleaning. It is 100% fabric. There are no button or wires. Learn more about ElekTex here.
